Majestic Creek Golf Club Hua Hin – Hot and Baked Course With Untapped Potential

It was a scorcher the day I played Majestic Creek. There was no cover anywhere, and everywhere I looked the grass was burned. The fairways looked and felt like cement, and the ball rolled a lot further than it had any right to. It was more like a desert round than a day on a tropical Thai course. And that was not the design talking. That was a lack of maintenance.

Majestic Creek sits in the hills west of Hua Hin. It is simple and low key. No luxury resort stays, no championship course on the beach. The valley around it is calm countryside: farmland, wooded areas and mountains that feel real rather than manufactured. Some of the tees climb high enough to look out over pineapple fields and jungle-covered hills.

I played it the day after Palm Hills, which matters for what I say about the greens further down.

A bit of history. The course was designed by Dr. Sukitti Klangvisai, a well-regarded Thai architect known for working with the existing terrain instead of reshaping everything. Here he let the valley decide where the holes would go. The routing follows the natural contours and ridgelines, and the elevation changes are gradual, so the walk has a comfortable rhythm without losing the strategic interest.

The course knows it is not Black Mountain or Banyan. It does not have that championship swagger and does not pretend to. What it has is a good layout with strong flow, built around the geography in a way that is fair to a player who thinks, not only to the one who hits it furthest.

OK, the actual golf.

The fairways run between subtle ridges and gentle slopes. Some holes play across the valley floor, others climb to the high tees. Tee shots mostly feel generous and inviting. The approach is where the work starts. The greens sit up above you, angled and protected by slopes and hazards, and if your drive is in the wrong half of the fairway you find out on the second shot.

Nothing about the routing is awkward. Everything connects, and the course is easy to walk. Compared with the more dramatic designs around Hua Hin, Majestic Creek does not make bold architectural moves. It uses the natural contours and some careful shaping, and the result hangs together. You just wish the maintenance matched it.

Bunkers are used sparingly, but where they are, they are there for a reason: to control the line you take and the angle you come in from. The water blends into the landscape and still affects how you play the hole. The course clearly favours placement over distance. On nearly every hole the water and bunkers make you choose, and weighing up that risk shot by shot is a big part of scoring here. You cannot simply overpower it. The first shot has to be planned so the second one is simpler.

The greens were a relief. Sensible speeds kept the strategy from getting out of hand. After the day I had had at Palm Hills, where a few holes bordered on absurd, consistent speeds and manageable slopes were very welcome. The contours at Majestic Creek are clever. They test you without punishing you. The greens read well, and if you hit your read you survive. That is the level it should be at, and it actually is.

Conditioning is the weak point, and I will not dress it up.

Time and resources have obviously run short, on the course and across the whole resort. The fairways were brown and rigid when I played, the bunkers were inconsistent, and in this state it simply cannot compete with the higher-level venues in Hua Hin. Calling the place a premier resort is almost laughable. The landscape is pleasant and natural, but the infrastructure and upkeep are budget, not premium.

That said, the course itself was tolerable. The firm ground and the strategic design together made for something different from the softer layouts elsewhere, with a rustic charm of its own. Just do not turn up expecting resort perfection and tournament conditions, or you will be disappointed.

My own round, in January 2026, was from the yellow tees on the Creek and Lake nines. I went out in 42 and came back in 41 for 83. Given the cement fairways I am not sure how much credit I can take for the distance. The ball went a long way whether I hit it well or not.

The par 5s were where it leaked. A 7 on the 5th, a 6 on the 9th, and a 7 on the 18th to finish. Three of the four par 5s over par, on a course where the ball was rolling forever. That takes some doing.

The good bits came either side of the turn. A birdie on the 8th, then another on the 10th, so for a few holes I had two birdies in three and thought I had worked the place out. I had not. Both par 3s on the front were pars, which is the sort of thing I mention only because the par 5s need something to hide behind.

What I liked most about the place had nothing to do with my score. Majestic Creek gets you out of the busy, resort-heavy parts of the area. It is quiet. The views are wide open with no buildings in the way. You hear birds rather than cars. Nobody is rushing you, so you can take your time over the round. If you are tired of courses that feel crowded and over-produced, this is the alternative.

Final word.

Majestic Creek is for golfers who do not mind low-maintenance conditions. If you want plain, authentic Thai golf with a well-defined strategy, this is the place. If you want pristine presentation and everything brand new, you will not get it here.

It is not luxury resort golf, and the word "premier" is a stretch. What it is, is honest rural Thai golf of decent quality, with good views and real strategic interest. The course clearly suffers from a lack of resources and upkeep. The routing and the setting are good enough that it is still worth the trip.

Should you play it? Yes, with your expectations set correctly. It is rustic, and the golf is the point. It is different from Black Mountain, Banyan and Palm Hills and offers a different kind of value. My advice is to play it early in a Hua Hin trip, before the championship courses spoil you.
